Competitive Intelligence for Product Marketers

A useful CI rhythm turns public observations into testable implications and distributes only what a team can act on.

Create a question-led source map

Map each competitor to pricing, positioning, product, trust, proof, and launch sources. Attach one decision question to every monitored section.

Use a three-layer brief

Layer one is the exact observed change. Layer two is the plausible market implication, labeled as inference. Layer three is the next validation or enablement action.

Calibrate confidence

Confidence should reflect source directness, freshness, consistency across captures, and whether the evidence covers the claim. It should never be a decorative certainty score.

Example workflow

A new enterprise security claim can trigger evidence verification, a sales objection update, and a product-marketing check for whether the claim is certified, generally available, or only aspirational.

Limitations

Website evidence represents published positioning, not private roadmap intent or actual customer adoption.

Start with one decision-relevant section.

Create a monitor, confirm the baseline, and let RivalLens surface evidence when a meaningful change appears.
