How RivalLens handles data
Last updated: May 31, 2026
RivalLens helps users monitor selected sections of websites and turn detected changes into useful competitor intelligence. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
1. Information we collect
We collect information needed to provide website monitoring, alerts, screenshots, and competitor intelligence.
- Account information: email address, user ID, authentication session, and basic account settings.
- Selected website content: page URL, selected text, HTML context, selector metadata, screenshots, and before/after snapshots for sections the user chooses to monitor.
- Usage information: user-initiated actions such as creating monitors, selecting page sections, syncing rescue scans, and viewing dashboard pages.
- Technical information: browser extension state, scan status, API requests, timestamps, error logs, and service diagnostics.
2. Chrome extension data
The RivalLens Chrome extension only captures website content when a user chooses to select a page section or run a local rescue scan. The extension may store a session token, backend URL, connection status, and recent save status locally in the browser so users do not have to reconnect every time.
The extension does not sell user data, does not collect health information, does not collect financial payment details, and does not read personal communications unless a user intentionally selects that content to monitor.
3. How we use information
- To create and manage monitors selected by the user.
- To compare before and after snapshots and detect changes.
- To generate summaries, signal scores, recommended actions, and competitor intelligence insights.
- To send email alerts and weekly summaries when enabled.
- To improve reliability, debug errors, prevent abuse, and secure the service.
4. AI processing
RivalLens may send selected page text, detected changes, and related context to AI service providers to classify changes and generate explanations. We only send the content needed to provide the monitoring and intelligence features.
5. Service providers
We use trusted service providers for hosting, database storage, authentication, screenshot storage, email delivery, analytics, and AI analysis. These providers process data only as needed to operate RivalLens.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell user data. We may share data with service providers that help us operate RivalLens, when required by law, to protect users and the service, or with the user's consent.
7. Data retention
We retain monitors, snapshots, screenshots, change history, and account data while an account is active or as needed to provide the service. Users may delete monitors from the dashboard. Deleted data may remain in backups or logs for a limited period before being removed according to normal operational processes.
8. User choices
- Users control which pages and sections are monitored.
- Users can delete monitors from the dashboard.
- Users can disconnect the Chrome extension from the extension popup.
- Users can contact us to request account or data deletion.
9. Security
We use authentication, access controls, HTTPS, and infrastructure security practices to protect user data. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to keep RivalLens reliable and safe.
10. Children
RivalLens is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as RivalLens changes. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
